5 essential items to take when out walking/hiking
Here is a list of the 5 MUST HAVES when you are out walking/hiking. You are encouraged to build on this list but please ensure you have at least these 5 items with you when you go.
- Water: It is important to stay hydrated, your life depends on it, whilst out walking/hiking, especially in hot or dry conditions, BUT, it is also as important in the colder seasons. Stay safe, stay hydrated.
- Snacks: Pack some high energy snacks like granola bars, trail mix, peanuts, mars bars and bananas to keep you fuelled up during your walk/hike.
- Map & Compass: A map and compass can help you navigate and find your way if you get lost or, alternatively, give you other route options should your route need diverting.
- First Aid Kit: A small first aid kit can come in very handy for minor injuries and emergencies.
- Clothing & footwear: Ensure you wear the appropriate clothing for the weather, conditions and activity you will be facing, and wear the correct boots or shoes for the terrain that are sturdy and right for the conditions.
